You may have heard of EMS or Email Marking Services. Constant Contact has been around awhile and most people have received email newsletters from them. Well there are many other options that may be better, depending on your requirements. I have my own brief reviews below but for an exhaustive comparison, check out We Rock Your Web’s comparison tables and reviews. Their favorite, by the way, is Get Response. Get Response offers a 50% discount for non-profits. Their basic non-discounted plan is $15/month for up to 1,000 subscribers and unlimited emails.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the products I’ve had experience with and some basic info about them. For a price they all can scale to accommodate larger mailing lists and more emailings with many more features.
- MailChimp: Free base plan with up to 2,000 subscribers and up to 12,000 emails per month. A good choice for small budgets and cheap skates.
- Vertical Response: Free with up to 1,000 subscribers and up to 4,000 emails per month. Their site and MailChimps are almost identical. Hmm.
- Constant Contact: They don’t show a pricing link on their home page. Not a good sign. Their support seems to be improving but wasn’t always very good. $15/month base plan with up to 500 subscribers, according to We Rock Your Web.
- Emma: $45/month base plan with up to 2,500 subscribers and unlimited emails per month. They are probably the highest price service around but have great customer service. When I’ve talked to them they always are very friendly and helpful. If you have a larger plan, then they’re more competitive with other services. They do offer a discount, like many others, for paying for the year in advance and have a 20% discount for non-profits. Their design sense is the best of the bunch.
